An import that fails
make import converts a document in artifacts/ to Markdown. It stops when the
document isn't there, or when Pandoc cannot read it.
What it looks like
ERROR: input file not found: artifacts/chapter1.docx
See https://keystone.knight-owl.dev/errors/import-failed/#the-document-isnt-there
✗ Converting to Markdown 0.0s
ERROR: import failed while converting 'chapter1.docx' to Markdown
│ couldn't unpack docx container: Did not find end of central directory signature
See https://keystone.knight-owl.dev/errors/import-failed/#the-conversion-fails
What it means
The document isn't there
artifact= names a file by its path inside artifacts/.
Put the document in artifacts/ and pass its file name
make import artifact=chapter1.docx reads artifacts/chapter1.docx. See
Convert a document.
The conversion fails
The lines behind the │ bar say why. A damaged file, or one whose extension doesn't match its contents, is the usual
cause. A format Pandoc can't read at all, such as PDF, is named there as well.
Save the document again, then import that copy
Open it in the program that made it and save it under the format its extension names, or as DOCX or ODT for a format Pandoc can't read.
