An unlisted heading without .unnumbered
.unlisted keeps a heading out of the table of contents, and PDF honors it only on a heading that is also
.unnumbered. Keystone warns of one marked .unlisted alone.
What it looks like
# Colophon {.unlisted}
WARN: class 'unlisted' needs 'unnumbered'
│ # Colophon {#colophon .unlisted}
Add .unnumbered to the heading.
See https://keystone.knight-owl.dev/errors/unlisted-without-unnumbered/
What it means
PDF ignores .unlisted on a heading .unnumbered doesn't mark. EPUB drops one only with numbering off book-wide
(numbersections: false); with numbering on, the default, it lists it too. The warning fires in every format and either
way, since the same manuscript builds a PDF.
Mark the heading unnumbered too
Write # Colophon {.unnumbered .unlisted}. The heading then loses its
number and leaves the PDF and EPUB contents. A shortcut that adds unlisted through
classes: takes unnumbered there too: classes: [unnumbered, unlisted].
See Native styles.
DOCX and ODT build their contents from heading styles, so they list every heading, .unlisted or not.
